Infection prevention

“Rooms get used before anyone checks them.”

Why it hurts

When the unit is full, the room that is probably clean gets the next patient, and nobody checks it.

What changes with Control

  • Every turnover clean is inspected before the room is released.
  • A failed inspection sends the room back to EVS with a note for a targeted re-clean.
  • Using a room early needs a reason, and the room carries a “clean owed” flag until EVS cleans it.

The research

48%

of high-touch surfaces were cleaned at discharge across 36 hospitals. With feedback to EVS staff, it rose to 77%.
