Throughput

“Rooms sit dirty while admissions wait.”

Why it hurts

After a discharge, EVS often hears about the room by phone or page, sometimes long after the patient has left. Every hour a cleanable room sits empty is an hour the next patient waits, often in the emergency department.

What changes with Control

  • Checking the patient out puts the room in the EVS queue at once.
  • The room is assigned to one EVS employee on shift. If they don’t accept within 10 minutes, it moves to the next person.
  • Turnover time, from discharge to available, is measured on every room.
